I’ve been meaning to get around to reviewing Inbound Marketing for a while. As much as the book is a couple of years old it’s one of those books that’s really stuck in my mind and is one of the drivers behind why we continue to blog and try to produce good content.
If you think of traditional marketing activities like telemarketing or direct mail these are really outbound activities in that you are pushing out your marketing message to try and get some potential opportunities. What Inbound Marketing does is bascially turn this on it’s head by trying to argue that the way businesses attract customers needs to change. The book is split into four parts. Firstly it deals with what exactly Inbound Marketing is and then continues into how you get found by your prospects. Part Three deals with converting customers and part four with making better decisions.
Over sixteen chapters the book goes into a lot of detail and one of my favourite aspects is the way it gives you examples at the end of each chapter appropriately titled Inbound in Action. One of the biggest things I took from the book is the whole concept of repurposing content and making it available in other formats and this is something that we continue to explore even today. I think the book is a great grounding for anyone looking to get a basic knowledge of internet marketing.
I think it’s also worth mentioning that the guys behind this book Brian Halligan and Darmesh Shah created the website Hubspot. They do an amazing job and give away lots of free guides etc so to be sure to check the site out!
We thought it would be cool to also offer a hardback copy of Inbound Marketing to one lucky reader of our blog. We’ll make entering as simple as possible as this is the first time we have really tried something like this.
